Symbiosis Programs
Symbiosis was founded by Padmashree Dr. S. B. Mujumdar in 1971. From the onset, SCDL was intended to be an international cultural and education facility with the goal of creating a "home away from home" to the very large number of Indian and foreign students who come to Pune in order to complete their higher education goals. Symbiosis strives every day to live up to its name (a term from the science of botany meaning "living together for mutual benefit"). In the past two decades, Symbiosis has grown into a group of thirty three academic institutions supplying high quality education from kindergarten to post graduate work.
Symbiosis distance learning course offerings include courses in history, literature, engineering, accounting, information science, and many, many other areas of study. The Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning (SCDL) is an autonomous institute, and a division of the prestigious Symbiosis Group. SCDL is approved as a Distance Learning Institute by the Distance Education Council of the government of India. SCDL does offer PCP (Personal Contact Programs) classes for some selected courses.
An experienced faculty member teaches students in a virtual classroom environment (or in a traditional classroom setting) in many of the largest metro cities in India. This innovative Personal Contact Program (PCP) is normally scheduled near the completion of the first and second semesters (typically, in November/December and May/June). A charge separate from regular tuition is charged to participate in the PCP program. It is not required that students attend the PCP but it is very strongly recommended.
SCDL maintains the right to schedule and conduct PCP programs as the institution best sees fit. Symbiosis distance learning course requirements include the requirement that all students will submit on line assignments for each distance course that they take in the curriculum. The on line assignment may be completed at any time during the semester, using the SCDL website. The on line assignment will typically consist of fairly simple objective questions students receive immediate results.
SCDL cannot and does not accept any assignment sent by postal mail. Students are also required to appear for online on demand exams in each course that the student completes in the curriculum. On line exams may be taken at any of the Aptech's ATTEST Centres, which are located in more than 40 cities across India. SCDL may add or delete any examination centre from the list of approved facilities.
